Welcome | Introduction
George is from Squamish Nation and has ancestry from Nooksack Tribe. He has lived in Mik’maq and Algonquin territory and currently lives in Sto:lo territory.
George is a self-taught artist working primarily with yellow and red cedar. He is influenced by many Aboriginal artists including Susan Point, Beau Dick, Robert Davidson and Bill Reid, and Norval Morrisseau.
"In many ways carving is medicine - it provides me with opportunities from a uniquely Salish perspective to meet new friends and to connect with old friends and family. For others the art evokes a sense of pride in the resurgence of many aspects of Salish culture.”
His work has been sold to different galleries in Canada and to private collectors throughout the world. Recently George completed carving a 20’ Salish House Post erected in the Town of Oyama Japan. He is currently carving two 18’ Salish Welcome Figures that will be erected in Vancouver during the 2010 Olympics.
George attributes much this success to Teresa, Harrison and Garrett –“Carving is very much a family affair…my family plays an important role and I am blessed to have their support and participation in what is proving to be a fulfilling path.”
